This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), we at NCALL are highlighting ageism and its connection to elder abuse and abuse in later life.

End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin and the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL) are excited to announce that Kristin Burki joined our staff on May 10 as the new NCALL Director.

Like other -isms, ageism segregates and reinforces inequalities between groups. In contrast to other -isms, ageism affects everyone at different stages in their lives. Ageism also creates a culture that ignores and tolerates elder abuse and allows abuse of older adults to continue unabated.

Each year, during the month of May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). In 2021, the designated theme is "Communities of Strength."
