Community Partners
Given the complexity of elder abuse cases, an interdisciplinary response is often most effective. Professionals, volunteers, and community members recognize signs of abuse, respond sensitively to victims, and refer cases to victim service providers, justice professionals, or adult protective services. In addition, other community partners in collaborative efforts may include, but are not limited to:
- Aging Network professionals and volunteers
- Civil Attorneys
- Faith Based Leaders
- Financial and Housing Specialists
- Health Care and Mental Health Professionals
- Substance Abuse Professionals
Some older victims may not reach out for services from mainstream programs. Collaborations must also include organizations or individuals who advocate for or support:
- Disability rights, deaf individuals, blind individuals, and persons with Alzheimer’s disease
- Persons living in facility settings, including Ombudsman
- Traditionally marginalized populations such as communities of color; immigrants, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons; and tribal communities.
